Visiting information - new procedures

We have made changes to the way in which we do things in order to ensure the safety of our visitors and volunteer staff. Please ensure you read the following information before you visit the Railway. In particular please note the final section headed 'Ensuring visitor safety' which explains the need for mandatory face coverings and other safety issues. This advice covers our Santa Specials in December.

Our Trains

We have made changes to the layout of our carriages with the addition of partitions to create compartments for family groups or “bubbles”. Most of these will take up to six people but some will take more. These changes have been done to help keep our visitors safe but they mean that the capacity of each train has been reduced.

How to make a booking

We would prefer that you book online in advance via our website. This will guarantee space on your chosen train and allow us to allocate your booking to a specific compartment in advance.

Only people included in your booking will be allocated to the same compartment.

We will try to accommodate people who just turn up on the day but we cannot guarantee availability.

Ticket Prices

Our Santa and Mince Pie Special ticket prices have been held at the same as last year’s prices.

Collecting your tickets

After booking online you will receive an email confirmation and booking reference number. Please bring this with you on the day of travel.

When you arrive at the station, we ask that only one adult (and otherwise unaccompanied children) from the party goes into the booking office to inform staff you have arrived and to collect your tickets.

Other members of the party (including accompanied children) will be guided to a route towards the platform.

If you have not booked in advance we also ask that only one adult (and otherwise unaccompanied children) from the party goes to the counter to make the ticket purchase.

NHS Covid-19 Track & Trace app

The adult who collects the tickets can also scan the offical QR code which is displayed in the station to 'check-in' on the NHS Covid-19 Track & Trace app.

Compartment Assignment

When you are given your tickets, our team will assign you a compartment number. On the platform the guard will then direct you to your compartment.

Santa Special Experience

You will board the train on Platform 2 and the guard will direct you to your allocated compartment.

Mince pies and punch will be served before the train departs.

The train ride is a 25 minute return journey to Leedon Loop. Please note our Santa Specials do not travel the full length of the line, and the scenery is suburban in nature.

The train will arrive back into Platform 1 at Page’s Park. You will be invited to leave the train one compartment at a time to visit Santa in his Grotto. Each train will have 10 or 11 compartments so please be patient during this process which will ensure social distancing.

Once you have been through the Grotto please follow the one way system through the shop to exit the station building.

We are operating two separate sets of coaches which will be used on alternate departures. This will give time for a full cleaning process before their next use.

Wheelchairs

Our special coaches that are able to accommodate wheelchairs are still available but the number of wheelchair spaces has had to be reduced.

When you book online please ensure you select the relevant 'wheelchair ticket' type to ensure we are aware of your requirement in advance and can allocate the relevant compartment.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome, and there is no extra charge for them on the trains. But not on the seats please.

Closed areas at the Railway

The Engine Shed Show at Page’s Park will be closed. All other areas at Page's Park will be open.

Café

The BuzzRail café at Page’s Park will be open but will have special arrangements to ensure social distancing. Please follow the guidance you are given on the day.

Ensuring visitor safety

The Leighton Buzzard Railway has the safety of visitors and our volunteer staff as a number one priority. To ensure you enjoy your day and stay safe, we’ve put a number of procedures in place.

Please bring your own face mask or covering and wear one in the shop, booking hall and on the train. Follow all signage and guidance from staff.

Our carriages will be cleaned at the start of each day and between trains. Visitors are asked to occupy the same compartment on the outward and return journey.

If you or any of your party are displaying symptoms of Covid-19, please do not visit the Railway. If this happens please usie the booking/tickets option of our contact us form or phone us on 01525 373888 to cancel your booking and we will rearrange your booking for a date when it is safe to visit. Please note our telephone is not always staffed so if you need to leave a message please clearly include your name and booking reference.

We would ask that all visitors adhere to social distancing guidelines at all times during your visit. Please follow the one way system around the station building and the site. There will be volunteer stewards to provide assistance.

Our toilets will be in use but only to one family group/bubble at a time. Locks will be fitted to the outside doors to assist with this.

In order to manage social distancing, we may have to ask you to wait to board or leave the train. Please be patient and wait for instructions from staff who will ensure you have a fantastic day.

Wash your hands regularly, especially before boarding and after leaving the train. We would ask that visitors bring hand sanitiser with then and take responsibility for cleaning the hands of any children in the party. Hand sanitiser dispensers will be available in the station.

In the shop please follow the one way signage. We may have to restrict the number of visitors in the shop. Please do not handle items before purchase and ensure that your children do not handle items.

We offer contactless payment up to £45, which is the preferred method of payment, but will also accept chip/pin transactions and cash.

Please dispose of all litter responsibly in the waste bins provided at stations.

We want everybody to have an enjoyable visit and kindly ask that all visitors respect each other, as well as our team of volunteers, and follow the guidelines which we have put in place for your safety.

We are scheduled to be closed until Saturday 5th December. In the event that the national lockdown is extended past 2nd December, and we are unable to offer trains on your chosen date, you will be offered the choice of a full refund or, if we are able to operate trains at all during December, an alternative date if one is available.
